Since the beginning of the year, we have been supporting the Schule am Martinsberg in Weingarten as part of the nationwide “Wissensfabrik e.V.” initiative and helping the school integrate technical and science topics into its curriculum. For elementary schools, Wissensfabrik has developed, among other things, the “KiTec” project, in which schools are equipped with child-friendly tools, wood supplies, and fasteners thanks to corporate donations. The goal is to enable children to gain hands-on experience in creative problem-solving, designing, and the practical implementation of woodworking projects. As part of this year’s school project week, themed “Small Hands – Big Achievements,” all second-graders had the opportunity to visit the woodshop and create their own projects.
The children participated in this special woodworking project with great enthusiasm and curiosity. In the process, they gained their first experiences working with wood and various tools and had the chance to test their skills.
At the start of the project, as part of the “tool license” program, the children learned how to safely use a saw, hammer, vise, and sandpaper. Step by step, they then used pieces of wood, screws, string, and glue to create unique projects, which they designed with great creativity. In addition to manual dexterity, the project required, above all, concentration, patience, and teamwork.
The Schule am Martinsberg extends its heartfelt thanks to us for the generous donation, through which we provided the school—via the nationwide business network “Wissensfabrik”—with high-quality, child-friendly tools and pre-cut wood, including composite materials. For many children, this was the first time they were able to complete their own project using wood and tools. Thanks to the new equipment, the woodshop will now surely be used more often.
